What happens to a submission

Path to being counted

  1. Submitted

    A record is created server-side. It is not public and is not counted.

  2. Pending verification

    Nothing has moved yet. An unverified pledge is never part of the public total.

  3. Email verified

    A single-use, expiring link was opened. This proves control of an email address.

  4. Active and counted

    Verified and active records — and only these — are summed into the public number.

  5. Scheduled reconciliation

    The published total is recomputed from the qualifying underlying records on a schedule, and any mismatch is flagged for review.

Removed or never admitted

A record can leave this path at any point. These outcomes are excluded from the public total, and a record already counted is removed when it becomes one of them.

Email verification confirms control of an address only. It does not establish citizenship, registration, residence, age, or compliance with the pledge. The ballot is secret and this organization cannot see it.

What email verification does and does not establish

Verification establishes that someone controlled the submitted email address at a point in time, by opening a single-use, expiring link. It does not establish citizenship, voter registration, residence in the stated state, age, or that the person will vote as pledged. The ballot is secret and this organization cannot see it.

Withdrawal

A signer can withdraw at any time from the management link. A withdrawn pledge stops being counted immediately, and the total falls. Withdrawals are never quietly retained to protect the headline number.

Duplicates, tests, and abuse

One counted pledge per verified address. Records created for testing are flagged at creation and can never enter the public aggregate, and records excluded after abuse review are removed from the count with the reason written to the audit log.

State totals and privacy thresholds

State-level totals appear only once a state passes a minimum privacy threshold. Below that threshold the state is shown as “below reporting threshold” rather than as a small number that could combine with other public information to identify an individual signer.

Last recomputed

The published aggregate was last recomputed from the underlying pledge records on Sep 22, 2026 at 5:39 PM ET.

Reconciliation

A scheduled job recomputes the aggregate from the underlying pledge records and compares it to the published total. Any mismatch raises an alert in the administrative system health view and is recorded in the audit log rather than silently correcting itself.

No administrator can inflate it

There is no administrative field anywhere in this platform that sets the public counter directly. The number is derived by trusted server-side logic from status transitions, and every transition is written to an immutable history table.
