What exactly am I pledging?

That once someone has held a U.S. House or U.S. Senate seat, you will not vote to elect them again for the same office. No exceptions.

Does this apply to local and state offices too?

Accepted Answer

No. The pledge covers the U.S. House and the U.S. Senate only. It takes no position on mayors, city councils, state legislatures, or governorships. Those are real offices with real problems; this rule is about Congress, and keeping it narrow is what makes it enforceable by ordinary voters.

So a House member could still get my vote for Senate?

Under this pledge, yes. It is a same-office rule: no second House term for a House member, no second Senate term for a Senator. That is a much smaller career ladder than the one that exists today, and it is the version voters can apply without needing to track a whole political biography.

Is this a petition, or a proposed law?

Neither. It is a voluntary personal voting rule. Nothing here is filed with any government body, and no signature creates a legal obligation.

Is this partisan?

No. The rule applies to every member of Congress regardless of party, ideology, or how much you like their record. A pledge that carves out your own side is not a rule; it is a preference.

Can you see how I actually vote?

No. Your ballot is secret. This organization cannot see, verify, or enforce your vote. The pledge is a statement of present intention only.

Why not just pass a law or an amendment?

Accepted Answer

Because a congressional term limit has to be written by the people it would end, and Congress has repeatedly declined to end itself. The Supreme Court has also held that states cannot impose term limits on their own congressional delegations. Voters already hold the power to decline a renewal, in every district and every state, without changing any law.

What about partial terms and appointments?

Having held the seat is the trigger. A Senator appointed to fill a vacancy, and never elected to it, has not been elected to that seat. That question and a few others are still open and are listed on the framework page.

Doesn't this throw away valuable experience?

Accepted Answer

It gives up the member's accumulated experience, and that is a real cost. Our answer is that a representative's job is to carry the will of the people, not to be the institution's memory. Operating knowledge should live in professional nonpartisan staff, published procedures, and independent outside expertise — where it can be examined — rather than in a person whose long tenure also accumulates donors and obligations.

What is the near-term goal?

The 2026 midterms. All 435 House seats and roughly a third of the Senate are on the ballot that day, and none of it requires a new law. If roughly one in ten voters adopted this rule and applied it, that bloc would exceed the winning margin in most congressional races. That is an illustration of scale, not a prediction.

It verifies that you control the address so the counter reflects real people. Marketing consent is separate and optional, and you can withdraw either at any time.

Is the pledge counter real?

Accepted Answer

Yes, and it starts at zero. Only verified, active, non-withdrawn, non-test pledges are counted, and no administrator can type a number into it.
